Community Service

In keeping with our the Rotary Motto, Service Above Self, we have used funds we raise to contribute to many groups and projects in our community, including:

  • Purchased a ballistic vest for the K9 unit (Kota) for the DeKalb Police Department
  • 14 Senior Citizen Music Recitals each year (two at each of the seven retirement/rehab centers in DeKalb)
  • Contributed to VAC for their new meals on wheels kitchen
  • Contributed to DCP-SAFE for their drug prevention activities
  • Contributed to the YMCA for a swimming pool ladder for seniors
  • Contribute $100/month to high school organizations chosen by Junior & Senior students of the month
  • Hosted foreign exchange students
  • Maintain approximately 35 park benches in DeKalb
  • Picnic Shelter, trees and a memorial garden for deceased members at Rotary Park
  • Contributions to RAMP, Toys for Tots, CASA and DeKalb HS Post Prom activities.
  • Picked up the Interact Club advisor’s fee when the school board dropped it from the budget
  • Fishing Derby for Kids held at Rotary Park.

We also invest our time and energy in projects including:

  • After school programs and literacy projects in conjunction with the school district
  • Delivering Meals on Wheels
  • Ringing the bell for Salvation Army every December
Sources of Funding

Over the years we have conducted many fund-raisers including:

  • Sweet Corn Sale – 4-5 Saturdays in August – partnered with others including Sycamore Rotary
  • Brat Sale at Pumpkin Fest
  • Annual Pancake Breakfast – at DeKalb High School
  • Draw Down – Our major fundraiser – held every June.

International Service

Have a twin club in Italy with whom we will be doing a cooperative International Project.
